LOVED AND LOST: SEA PINUPS

Back in January a friend put on a pin-up show in Calagary and I was not able to contribute due to being gone traveling. Ever since I have wanted to do a series of pin-ups so this is what was produced. I am so so on the results, not quite what I had envisioned but learned a few lessons. The tattoos of each guy give hint at a backstory to each of them and who the girl was to them. Here are brief summaries.

The first guy lost his wife, and battled with depression and suicidal tendencies, he only finds solace in the sea. The second guy was a womanizing gambling navy man, who had a girl in every port and loved the navy, and was kicked out for his ways. He became embittered and spent the rest of his life as a fisherman. The third guy was a handsome and dashing in his youth until he lost his hand to the shark, his love became disgusted by him and left leaving obsessed and miserable. He only finds solace in the sea.

JAZZ

The first of a possible series of images based around different genres of music. I wanted to communicate the energetic and improvisational nature of jazz so I made up a lot of the image as I went along, which is usually a headache for me but I am decently happy with the results.

THE FALL

So a few years back I was listening to a podcast that was discussing how throughout history no matter what mankind does we tend to mess up the environment around us. The example of this they used was the development of agriculture which is not typically something you would think of as being detrimental to its surroundings. This popped an image into my head that a good metaphor for this would be the biblical story of the fall of man, and how basically adam and eve screwed up and ruined everything for the environment surrounding them. Note this is not an “woooh religion” image, it’s just a metaphor because my metaphors don’t get very deep.

Decently happy with how this image turned out, its been kicking round in my head for a long time and I learned a lot from the process.

SUBURBAN BARBARIANS

some designs for a group of characters currently known as suburban barbarians. The idea is of a cross between the idylic suburbs of the 50′s and a barbarian lifestyle. The first image is the station wagon the father figures ride out in to go hunting. The second is of a house living room. Some character designs and another environment are on the way.
